Liliana totally stepped out tonight at Destiny Kids - the grade 4-6 kids program here at Bethel. She spoke on being selfless like Christ.....wow! She wasn't quite tall enough to see over the pulpit and couldn't stand on tip-toes in her boots. So she's preaching bare foot - ballerina style!!! Go Lily!
Here's an exert from her word: My name is Liliana. Today I’m going to be talking about how to be selfless like Jesus. James 4:1-3 in the passion translation says: What is the cause of your fights with each other? Doesn’t the battle begin inside of you as you fight to have your own way… you jealousy want what others have, so you begin to see yourself as better than others. You scheme against others, to selfishly obtain what you want because you won’t ask God for it...". James is saying if we can try and think about others more and more, and put ourselves aside, we’ll find it will get easier and easier to think about their hearts when things don’t quite turn out the way we hoped. When I first started writing this preach, I wasn’t quite sure what to speak on, until I opened my bible one day, and came upon this verse that tells of how well Jesus thought of others: Philippians 2:3-8 says "Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges he took the humble position of a slave, and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor".In the passion translation, verse 4 says: "Abandon every display of selfishness. Have a greater concern for what matters to others instead of your own interests". How about we make some declarations about how God sees us and how we see others? I am a powerful person, I am a selfless person because of Christ in me, I am a kind person, I am slow to anger, I am slow to frustration, I love my family and friends, I love my Lord God.
Lily finished her speaking with this prayer: "Jesus, thank you for helping me to think more of others' hearts, and thank you for helping me to love others as you did. Thank you that I know who you are and you help me to put others' needs before my own". Amen!!!
